Being realistic about an outdoor space is particularly important when it comes to designing a small garden for a busy couple in an urban environment. So my idea for Realistic Retreat was to create an undemanding, fairly structured garden with plenty of interest; a stepped water feature, strong surfaces in York stone, a raised wooden lounger and soft, beautiful planting. What we achieved was a contemporary space to relax in and enjoy.
