People often ask me what I like most about gardening, and it’s really very simple. I love being outside, I love watching the hedgerows come to life in spring; being out there and seeing the seasons unfold. During my early days spent on my grandad’s allotment, I developed a real passion for growing things. This passion for plants and designing planting schemes that will deliver so much pleasure is at the heart of my work and something that inspires each new project.
For me, creating a garden is about a journey that we can all enjoy. The time I spent with the BBC’s Gardeners’ World presenter, Geoff Hamilton gave me so much. It was impossible for his passion and deep knowledge of plants not to rub off. And as I continue to work with some of today’s most talented gardeners that passion and understanding of plants and design keeps on growing. I believe that gardening is good for all of us. Each time I get involved with a new garden design or planting scheme, my number one hope is that it will make people want to get out and garden. For me, that is a mark of real success.
