"We truly believe to design something well you should understand how it is built, the construction gives you your bones to the garden, creating our spaces to use and areas to plant."
Chelsea 2007 - 'Realistic Retreat' wins Gold
A garden designed specifically for a couple living in a busy urban environment won a gold medal at the Royal Horticultural Society’s Chelsea Flower Show. Designed by Adam Frost, 'Realistic Retreat' was an undemanding, beautifully planted and sensitively built space, featuring a stepped water feature, York handmade bricks and a raised wooden lounger.
In the 'City Gardens' category of the show, 'Realistic Retreat' was designed to give a realistic idea of how a small city garden can look, given good design, considered planting and creative flair. It reflected contemporary taste, but not at the expense of useability, imagination or a love of plants.
It was the first time Adam Frost designed and built his own garden at Chelsea. "I was so pleased to have been awarded a gold medal – it made all the effort, time and planning totally worthwhile, for me and the team. The garden looked great and went down so well with visitors."
