The main challenge of this garden was not the brief set by the clients, but rather the logistics of getting material in and out of the garden - through the house (there was no rear-garden access). Approximately 20 tonnes of material come out, and 30 tonnes went in. The end result is a cool, calm and peaceful garden that uses trellis, water and planting to delineate space, while adding colour and texture. Outside the back door is a simple terrace constructed from York-style paving and terracotta tiles to the edge.
