If you’ve been following my blog, you will know that the build up to Chelsea began long, long ago, so it was fantastic when Monday came and we were ready to go. And yes, that 17-day build, working 14 hours a day, with little time to do anything but focus on the garden has been worth it! The public’s reaction to my work this year is more than I could have wished for (I couldn’t resist sharing some of their comments with you below). Seeing people’s faces and hearing what they have to say really has made it all worthwhile.
It’s the first time that I’ve been commissioned to design and build a show garden by a major sponsor and it has been a great experience for me. QVC have been brilliant to work with. They’ve allowed me creative freedom and supported my ideas, which stick very close to my passion, which is to get more people out there enjoying plants and gardening. The QVC Garden is very much about the real world; it was designed for real people using a realistic size space and with soft-coloured, everyday planting that anyone could achieve.

I wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who has helped make this Chelsea Flower Show such a success. I’d especially like to mention all the local crafts people who have supplied some of the key features and the guys who’ve helped me to build it. And finally, here are some of the fantastic comments that people have made on the BBC’s micro site for Chelsea. They will keep me smiling long after the show finishes at the weekend:
“This is a garden I would love to sit in, sheltered in the day, but mostly of an evening, not merely to relax in but to be positively uplifted by the rich colours and scents of the flowers.”
“This is Chelsea as it should be. A fabulous garden filled with useful ideas and a pleasure to see. What were the judges thinking of in not giving this beautiful garden a gold. It is a real garden, which real people could actually use.”
“This garden deserved a gold and, for my money, the best in show! This is the kind of garden you would willingly transport to your own home - a gorgeous and soulful design but also real world design that you could live in, and with, for years. Congratulations to Adam, a people's winner.”
“What I like about this garden is that it is accessible and ‘real’.”
“Congratulations on a beautiful garden! My favourite by far, I can’t believe it didn’t get the gold it so obviously deserved.”
“We thought that this garden really did deserve gold. The simple compact design that, unlike so many other past and present Chelsea shows, really could used in so many of our gardens at home.”
