Let it snow…..

As I’ve said before, I’m not a great lover of the snow. I do find it all very frustrating but, at the same time, nature is so special. I’ve just had a walk around the gardens here at Barnsdale (actually, that’s a bit of a lie as Nick did and let me have some photos – but the thought was there…) and it looks so beautiful. The atmosphere is so peaceful, don’t you think our countryside and gardens look like different worlds?

It gives me the same feeling as when the Christmas decs go up and the place just feels different. At the same time, when it goes everything looks a bit bare and gives me the same feeling as when the decs come down. Isuppose the snow does decorate everything really and shows everything in a different way. Anyway, have a look at the photos and see what you think. I love the photos not just for their beauty but the thoughts they provoke, here’s what they do for me:

The first one looks slightly derelict like it’s been left for years and a thin layer of dust has fallen over everything. The second brings the prunus serrula to life, the bark in the white setting is stunning. Also the small piles of the snow sitting on the winter heads of the sedum look like they all have little bobble hats on (bless them!). And last, but not least, the winter grasses - is this not when these plants come into their own?

Enough said, back to work, hope you like them – Nick said he got cold taking them!
