Chelsea a go go !

Just to let you know the nice people at the RHS have given us the 'green light'. It does feel good knowing your design will be on that cat walk come May. It's just what we needed - with the way the weather is its starting to feel like a long winter but May will soon be with us I promise!

We still have plenty of work to do, as I have said before Chelsea really is a team effort and everyone is now in place (well nearly) . Newground Landscapes info@newgroundlandscapes are helping me with the construction and working out how our polished concrete pads are going to appear to float - simple!! Nick Hamilton from Barnsdale Gardens [web] is growing most of the plants about a hundred yards from my new office so fantastic for me I will not have to travel miles to keep a check of things not so good for nick though I will have properly driven him and his team completely mad by May so I do apologize in advance and of course none off this would be happening without our sponsor 'Landsend' [web] - A global specialist clothing company.

I am now fine tuning the planting sorting varieties and quantities - as you know these plants have to be spot on . Nick has been great - we have a tunnel put aside so we do have the luxury of growing a lot more than is needed. You know how you want your garden to look very early on but its good being able to keep your opinions open with your planting

As I have said before my garden is inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright. I do find him fascinating; not just his architecture, but his life. You could say he was not the most straightforward character. Wright believed nature to be his church and was heavily influenced by the outside world which fascinates me as I really do believe gardens can change peoples lif on all sorts of levels. The more I have learnt about the man the more I believe his believes are still so relevant in todays world.

So this garden is not a simple take off of Frank Lloyd Wright, for me its been about exploring and its not just Wrights approach to design, its about how he changed the way people lived. Yes its interesting working out how the concrete and steel will balance in with the softer elements of the garden but what really excites me is the way people live in there homes and gardens. So this garden is for a couple (or should I say my friends) who have a modernist home and a passion for the design. So yes, this garden design really needs to sit comfortably in its environment a balance of function and beauty but more than that it's also about a way of life, their personal link with nature, their space. I do hope that makes sense to somebody and the garden does Frank Lloyd Wright justice. I will keep you updated!!
