Off again....

It’s all a bit mad here at the moment but I’m not complaining though, to be honest I love it!

Just back from Chelsea and now off to Gardeners’ World Live at the NEC, which no doubt will be a crack. I have a motley crew for that one – Matt Biggs of Gardeners’ Question Time fame, plus Jim Buttress (RHS judge and holder of the VMH). If anyone saw the ‘Save Lullingstone Castle’ series Jim was the sensible one on that (first time for everything Jim!).

Chelsea Flower Show

Just arrived at Chelsea and it’s great to be back. It doesn’t feel like a year since the last show! I’ve had a good look around and there’s some great gardens here this year. It’ll be interesting to see how it all goes.Read more...

Update at last.....

Sorry I’ve not been around for a while. To be honest, I don’t know how some people find time to keep their blogs updated, their tweets twittered and whatever you call it on Facebook!  Anyway, thought I’d better do a quick update for you.Read more...

And they’re off….

New Ground Landscapes have just embarked on another project I have in London. It’s a good-sized garden in North London and the clients are just finishing a big renovation project. The house looks great and now they want a garden to match!

I’m really excited about this project and my client has been kind enough to let me blog my way through it, which should take about 12 weeks. Just to get us started I will try to give you a simple summary of what we are trying to achieve:Read more...

Sharing a pie and a pint

It doesn’t get much better than this – my kitchen table, probably my favourite place in the world (after my garden obviously!). Add to that a few friends, their various offspring and Jamie’s Steak and Guinness pie (taken from his book ‘Happy Days with the Naked Chef’).Read more...

A leap of faith

Yes finally - after probably 10 years of putting it off I have forked out for Vectorworks (which is a CAD-driven design package) and two days training. Admittedly there may have to be a few more before AFD is in the 21st century, but I am really excited about it and the two days were superb

If you are thinking about it I would happily recommend the services of Tamsin from Vectorworks Training (www.vectorworks-training.co.uk. (After that plug I will be also expecting a hefty discount on my next sessions. x)

February so far

Well, it’s still dark, gloomy and cold but I have seen the signs that spring is on its way – my hammamelis is out, so too are the snowdrops and my kids are on half term.

It seems a while since I have put pen to paper (or finger to the key, if that’s how you put it) and I’ve now been sitting here for nearly 15 minutes just moving bits of paper around my desk and listening to Snow Patrol replaying the song ‘Chasing Cars’ just because I love the line ‘show me a garden that’s bursting into life…’ (Is that normal?).Read more...

Happy New Year to you all.

I was hoping to start my 2010 blog feeling a bit more up-beat but this weather is driving me crackers!  I just want to get out in the garden, even if it’s just to turn some ground. But instead, I’m driving my wife mad and making a mess in our kitchen. Mind you, if I say so myself, over Christmas I made a really good ham hock terrine and a chicken parfait (I’m not making it up) courtesy of Messrs Ramsey and Oliver. Add to that all the other festive treats - and obviously a huge quantity of red wine – and a good time was had by all!
